Junior Associate – Patent Litigation

Hudnell Law is seeking a highly skilled and motivated Junior Associate to join our patent litigation team. The ideal candidate will have patent litigation experience and a strong desire to take meaningful responsibility in complex, high-stakes matters. This position offers the opportunity to work closely with seasoned litigators in a dynamic and technology-focused practice. The Junior Associate will play a key role in managing the day-to-day aspects of active litigation matters. The position requires a strong command of legal analysis, excellent written and oral advocacy skills, and the ability to handle assignments with minimal supervision. Candidates should demonstrate both a technical aptitude and an enthusiasm for mastering sophisticated legal and technological issues.

Responsibilities

The Junior Associate will be responsible for:

  • Managing discovery, including drafting and responding to discovery requests, coordinating document productions, and assisting with deposition preparation.
  • Substantially contributing to motion practice by drafting supporting briefs.
  • Handling case management tasks from the pleading stage through pre-trial, including preparing case timelines, organizing evidence, and assisting with strategy development.
  • Conducting comprehensive legal research and analysis.
  • Working closely with clients, experts, and team members to develop case positions.
  • Supporting trial preparation, including witness/exhibit preparation and pre-trial filings.
  • Working with colleagues to ensure consistent, high-quality, and on-time work product.

Qualifications

  • Patent litigation experience in a law firm or similar environment.
  • Strong legal research, writing, and advocacy skills, with demonstrated experience in discovery and motion practice.
  • Technical degree strongly preferred; alternatively, candidates must demonstrate significant technical aptitude and a desire to engage deeply with complex technologies.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to work effectively with clients, experts, and colleagues.
  • Self-motivated, organized, and capable of managing multiple assignments.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently while contributing to a collaborative culture.

Summer Associate – Patent Litigation

Hudnell Law seeks highly motivated 1L and 2L law students for a Summer Associate position within our patent litigation practice. This is an excellent opportunity for students interested in developing hands-on experience in IP litigation and working closely with experienced attorneys in a dynamic, technology-focused environment. Summer Associates will work under the supervision of the firm’s attorneys to support all phases of patent litigation. While the position does not require prior patent litigation experience, candidates should demonstrate strong analytical skills, a desire to learn complex technical/legal concepts, and a genuine interest in IP litigation.

Responsibilities

Summer Associates will have the opportunity to:

  • Conduct legal research on substantive and procedural issues arising in patent litigation.
  • Draft research memos, citations, and preliminary sections of motions, briefs, and discovery responses.
  • Support discovery efforts, including document review, factual development, and preparation of witness and exhibit materials.
  • Assist with case management tasks such as organizing filings, tracking deadlines, and preparing case summaries.
  • Participate in strategy meetings, attorney conferences, and internal training sessions to observe the litigation process.
  • Work directly with attorneys on ongoing matters, gaining exposure from the pleading stage through pre-trial activities where applicable.
  • Contribute to the firm’s collaborative culture by engaging with team members and assisting wherever needed.

Qualifications

  • Current first- or second-year law student in good standing at an accredited law school.
  • Strong legal research and writing abilities.
  • Demonstrated technical aptitude and willingness to learn complex subject matter; a technical or scientific background is preferred but not required.
  • Excellent communication skills and professionalism.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, sound judgment, and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
  • Genuine interest in patent litigation or intellectual property law.
